Honestly when I first heard about the civic mapping, I never thought it was something that I would do. When I first joined the club, I had no idea what I was getting into. I wasn’t good with maps and I had no idea what this mapping club was about. I came to find out that it was actually very simple and wasn’t that difficult of a learning curve. It’s fun because yes we do get rewarded with certain treats, but you also get to do something so simple but so impactful. One of my favorite mapping tasks was when we mapped in Mexico City.

I got introduced to mapping when it started to be a part of our course in my senior
survey class. My teacher told us the importance and the benefits we would bring to each of the countries we mapped such as climate resistance in Ethiopia, racial equity in the USA, women’s empowerment in Mexico City, and food insecurity in California. As I got re-introduced to this project I got more and more interested in how it helps the world
around us and how it really makes a difference for the people who live in these countries.
